ARTHUR EPHRAIM STRONG

Arthur Ephraim Strong was born 12 March 1872 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James
Thomas and Elizabeth Catherine Swaner Strong. He was the seventh child in
a family of eleven. He was married 16 September 1896 in the Logan Temple to
Alice Harwood Ashman. They resided in Salt Lake City in a home located at
753 East 5th South. They were the parents of three children: Edith May born
17 March 1898; Byron Ashman born 10 September 1899; and Harold Ashman born
23 June 1903. During the early years of their marriage Arthur worked for the
Troy Laundry as a driver. He and his brother-in-law, Adam Earl, later opened
a grocery store known as Strong and Earl's next to their homes on Fifth South.
Eventually he started work as a sales clerk with the Porter-Walton Seed Company
from which re retired in 1943.
Arthur was active in the Tenth Ward and served in the Sunday School Superintendency
for over fifteen years. He was also active with the Boy Scouts of America
and received a Silver Beaver Award for his many years of service with the
youth.
He died 14 February 1948 in Salt Lake City and is buried in the Salt Lake
cemetery. His wife Alice preceded him in death, dying 12 May 1935. They are
survived at this writing by their three children, 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren
and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
